Driving New York to San Francisco

1/19/2008

About a year ago we accepted Y Combinator funding -- one of the requirements was for us to relocate the company from State College, PA to San Francisco.

Since I had a car to bring out, I decided to drive the 3,000 or so odd miles with all of my belongings packed into my car. To make things interesting, I decided to stop every 40 miles and take a picture of myself in front of the car, in the same place.

I put this all together as a video:

This is still a first draft (I'm toying around with a couple songs I might want to use instead). Let me know what you think!

Cool, I have a similar thing from my drive from Seattle to San Diego last summer, but frames taken every 30 seconds from inside the car:

This is cool man, I love road trips.

There is a great song by Bright Eyes named 'I must belong somewhere' which I have always thought would be great for a montage. Check it out.

Dude,

I love this. It turned out so well. I love the beaver hill parking lot nostalgia.

@Leslie:

My only big tip: Don't take I-80 during the winter months :)

Is anyone from Weebly support out there?
It is has been nine days now since I published my site and Weebly has put a placeholder of links on my URL that I wouldn't ever want to be associated with.
Someone please tell me Weebly can't or won't publish my site --- or do what you say you will.

Hi Kirk,

It seems you didn't purchase your domain through Weebly. That's ok! You can still use it with Weebly. But you'll need to contact the person you registered it with (domain.com) to figure out how to switch your DNS settings to work with Weebly. There's more instructions on how to do that here:

Sounds like the video is cool but... I can't see it at all. I'm using firefox on a Mac, should I be able to see a video image on the blog??

The moveie/slideshow of the trip is really elegant and a great way to record long overland trips.

It is as elegant as weebly - which is by far the simplest web creator I have come across - and which derives its power from that simplicity. More power to you and all success.
